Small and Medium Rugs and Capes

In these pages you will find a variety of small rugs, many in reds but some in blues and other colors, plus a few women's capes.
The first of these rugs are in blue, rather unusual for Morocco.
Piece 5.15425 is a small Zemmour style rug in design, but the rich blue color replacing the usual red ground is an innovation, perhaps for the Western market. The design stripes are traditional in form, and the red and white are traditional colors, but the yellow in a shiny fiber is new, probably replacing the orange that some Westerners find too bright. I have had several orders for this rug and now have two identical ones. You can see the colors better here. This piece measures about 34" x 58" (a little less than 3'x5') or 86 x 147cm, and the price is $125.
Capes
Moroccan women wear capes as outer garments in rural areas. They are usually wool, to protect against the cold, and often beautifully made, to show the woman's weaving skill. There are many varieties of capes in Morocco, and you can see a few below.
Piece 5.15429 is a black and white woman's cape with varied design stripes in white and black wool separated by cotton stripes bordered by maroon wool, which you can see by better clicking the photo. I like to see how far the design stripes go without repeating. Click here for an overview of the piece. It is a bit lighter in overall appearance than the very similar piece below. I would use this on the floor in a low wear area, as a throw - or you could wear it. The wool is warm, but not heavy. The size is about 36 x 69 inches (91 x 175 cm) and the price is $175.
Piece 5.15431 is a black and white woman's cape with varied design stripes in white and black wool separated by cotton stripes bordered by barely-visible maroon wool, which you can see by better clicking the photo. You can see an overview of this piece here; it is a bit darker in overall appearance than the very similar piece above. This could be used on the floor in a low-wear area like a bedroom, or as a throw or hanging. The size is about 37 x 72" (or 3' x 6') or 37 x 183 cm) and it costs $175.
Piece 5.14962 is a woman's cape from the Middle Atlas Mountains. It has rows of fringe and colored designs on the face, on a base of off white wool and white cotton; the back is almost plain. Click the close-up to see the fine weaving and the crispness and surprising colors of the designs. This also has what they call a "hand" or suppleness when you handle it. It has a few spots that look like rust, almsot inevitable in older pieces, but they are not too prominent. The back looks almost plain. The size is about 3'3" x 5'9" (99 x 175 cm) and the price is $225.
