Small and Medium Moroccan Rugs and Capes

Zemmour Rugs

Zemmour rugs are very popular on my site, perhaps because they are small and easy to fit into many styles of home, make unique gifts, and also because of the reasonable prices. The dollar has fallen in relation to Moroccan currency in the last year or two, so prices have gone up a bit but are still reasonable. I have many of these rugs right now, some similar to the one below in that the red is muted. In fact, this rug was ordered by so many people that it inspired me to buy more. I leave it on as an example.

Piece 3.13445 is a small Zemmour piece with traditional designs but rather different colors. The red is rusty rather than the usual deep rich shade, and the gold has a greenish tint, seen best in this close-up. This is an especially well-done piece in that the design stripes each have their own border. You can also see some abrash or color variation in the red: look to the right of the design stripe with "hourglalsses" near the center. The size is about 2'8" x 4'5" (81 x 135cm) and the price is $105. This is SOLD, but I have gotten so many requests for it, that I plan to buy several in these more rusty tones soon.

Beginning below are the new pieces I bought in the fall of 2005, with some trying to duplicate the muted tones of the piece above. Since all these items are handmade and usually one of a kind (though sometimes pairs are woven, as you will see below) I could not find an exact match. But explore the items below - perhaps you will like some better!

Piece 5.15385 has a lacy feeling to it because of all the fine white design elements, especially in the complex border, which you can see better here. The ground is a deep rich red with accents in black and gold or pale orange, which I couldn't get to look right on my computer screen. It measures about 34" x 48" or 3' x 4' (86 x 122 cm) and costs $105.

Piece 5.15379 is in a deep muted red with accents in black, white and a rusty orange. It features many bands with the hatif design made up of triangles composed of triangles, popular in Berber rugs from this area. You can see the composition better in this detail. The size of this piece is about 33" x 67" (84 x 170 cm) and the price is $120.

The following pieces are the more traditional Zemmour colors, in reds ranging from bright true red to deep maroon, with black and white accents and orange or yellow highlights. The first pieces below are Zemmour rugs in the brighter reds, preferred by the Berbers who make them.

Piece 4.6169 is in a true clear red and has a few sequins. The color in the full photo is better than on the detail, where it is too dark. The size is 3'4" x 5'6" ( cm) and it costs $175.

Piece 5.15393 is a rich deep red with muted orange. Notice the grouping of 3 design bands separated by a white zig-zag line. You can see the patterns more clearly in this close-up. The size is about 29 x 48" and it costs $80.

Piece 5.15407 rich bright red with black, white and yellow designs. No matter how hard I try, my computer makes them look orange, but they are a sunny yellow. You can see the crisp design in this detail, which along with the colors make it a cheery rug. It measures about 24 x 41" (61 x 104 cm) and the price is $70.

Piece 5.15409 is a rich deep red with accents in black, white, red, dark orange and a bit of green. You can see the green better in this close-up, but the red there is wrong; the large photos are the true color. The size is about 29 x 44" (74 x 112 cm) and it costs $75.
